We are currently in the middle of an election for AZ LBC Board of Directors. Which means many people are asking, how are you going to make it better? How will things change?
Passbooks – Many of you that are apart of the AZ USA Boxing family have discussed the need for better management and delivery of the passbooks for both fighters and coaches. The process has been difficult and if you didn’t know the person making the book, typically it took some time to get yours.
For the upcoming years we would like to see the 2 week timeline to get your passbook to fight, be changed, updated and done within a few days if not the same day. How would you do it?
We would like to propose and adopt a method that many oher LBCs have and that is giving control of the books to the Board of Directors and Committee members, so that we can serve the people in our areas, like Yuma, Tucson, Coolidge, etc..
We also propose that we set up days, throughout the year, where we set up many volunteers to help make books for the young women and men that want to compete.
We would also like to provide an opportunity for people to get their books at our shows and events.
Committees – We want to follow the bylaws from USA Boxing and form committees to help formalize many of the projects that we endure throughout the year – Finance, Junior Olympics, Registration (Book Day), Officials, Coaches, Tournament Planning and Judicial, just to name a few.
We would establish a Chairperson for each committee that would be responsible for the committee and reporting to the board of directors, mainly president and secretary. Those people that ran in the election but did not win, should have first available option as chairperson of a committee.
We would also like to develop committees for events using other gyms and coaches and parents for volunteers to involve all participants – Silver Gloves, Copper Gloves, Golden Gloves, Arizona Title, Boarder Brawls (AZ vs CA, AZ vs MEX).
Meetings / Communication – We want to establish regularly scheduled board meetings (min Monthly). Everyone is invited. Everyone can attend, in person or electronically based on the meetings availability.
Communication has been a big issue with many of our members. We propose that all elected board members will be available and help whenever you (gym owners, coaches, boxers, boxer’s parents, people in the community) need it and by any means necessary.
We will be open to all forms of communication. Use whatever means necessary to talk with the board and get assistance to whatever you need, text, email, social media, etc.
Social Media will also be huge for this new board and communicating with our members through our Website (English/Spanish) through information overload of How to, Who to, Where to, When to, Why to … We will develop a presence on Instagram, Facebook, Youtube, Tiktok, etc., and open communications through newsletters, podcasts, email, text, etc..
Coaches – Bring back the Clinics. We propose we do quarterly clinics for our coaches and possibly require 1 clinic per year for all coaches. We want to share all the info we have available to us and provide assistance for doing shows, vendors, wholesale accounts, social media, insurance, etc..
Officials (Judges and Refs) – We need to promote volunteers and get people involved. Currently Arizona can only have 1 event at a time or per day based on the number of officials we currently have available. We need to build this up so we can have more events than just the one per weekend. We propose to set up booths at events to recruit new personnel as well as have quarterly meetings and training sessions.
Meals and gas cards will be provided for all officials and be a requirement of the board to provide at the events, not necessarily the one’s hosting or putting one the show.
Boxers – Let’s make it easy to participate and get the passbook for these young women and men. We would like to provide boxing clinics for boxers put on by local coaches regularly. We want to get everyone a fight that gets their book by providing more opportunities to fight and compete.
We also want to send more boxers to regionals, nationals, silver gloves, golden gloves, etc., building our national presence.
Current AZ Boxer Rankings (let’s build this list and congrats to the following young men and women)
- Elite Male – Angel Young 203#
- Elite Female – Mariah Martinez 110#
- Junior Male – Angel Lainez 176#
- Junior Female – Natli Inzunza 106#
- Junior Female – Naomi Hernandez 110#
- Skyler Bialecki ranked # 8 at 75lbs
- Liam Bialecki ranked # 6 at 60lbs
Gyms – We want to highlight our Arizona gyms throughout the year. For all new gyms we want to put together a Welcome Package that join, Rulebook, Bylaws, Flag, sticker, USA Boxing tshirts, etc. We also would like to provide a how to map for those that have never had a gym, through our website. We also want to establish a local map of all USA Boxing gyms in AZ with contact info on website as well as those gyms that may not be registered but have registered boxers.
One our main items would be to help gyms throw shows. Currently we only a handful of gyms throw shows throughout the year. Would like to get more gyms involved and help them throw shows
Shows – For all of the shows throughout the year, we will have LBC support at every event. One of our goals to support our local shows is be to provide the ring and the gloves to the Event Holder to cut down on overall costs for the host. We also would like to help with all aspects of the show, from matchmaking, registration, awards, etc., whatever is needed, we want to help.
Apart of the shows is our Tournaments and we want to build these back up.
- Silver Gloves
- Copper Gloves
- Golden Gloves
- Arizona Amateur Title – top ranking, invite only
- Masters Tourney
- Junior Olympics
- Cinco de Mayo
We would like to also propose the Arizona Amateur Title – top ranking, invite only, where we have a Arizona only state championship at the end of the year.
Some of the other ideas around the shows would include Sponsorship, Photographers and Videographers available at the shows, along with Live streaming for those that can’t make it to the venue, as well publishing photos and videos to our social media.
Annual Banquet – Dec. We also propose we hold an annual banquet after Arizona Title Tourney, give thanks to all gym, boxers, coaches, parents, sponsors, etc.. Awards would be given to Boxer, Coach, Team, Gym of the year, Show of the Year, Fight of the Year, etc.. We would also like to give honor to those that have past, coaches and boxers, as well as give acknowledgement to those who opened a gym, started coaching in AZ, etc.. The event would be dinner followed by presentation and awards.
Travel Team – we would also like to propose a travel team, based on winners of AZ Title Tourneg held in Dec. This selection would include the Boxer and Boxer’s coach.
Donation Center – Goodwill for boxing. Have a central location where people can donate old equipment and we can refurbish and distribute to those gyms that have need for available equipment. We can also make equipment available to purchase at super reduced costs.
Nationals Roadmap – Road to become a champion (website)
We want your input and feedback. This is for us by us.
